Midsummer Shakespeare Company
Grades 9 - graduating seniors

This five-week intensive program in classical acting begins with a five-day workshop on the world, words and stagecraft of Shakespeare. This exploratory week focuses on acting skills, movement, voice and technical approaches to working with Shakespeare’s language and casting the production. The four weeks that follow consist of exciting and demanding rehearsals for the production of As You Like It. The rehearsal process concludes with 3 public performances of the play in Imagination Stage’s Reeve Theatre. photo

This pastoral comedy follows the fortunes of Rosalind, daughter of an exiled father and niece to the cruel Duke Frederick. Banished from the court by her uncle, she travels to the forest of Arden to seek her father. Accompanied by her doting cousin Celia and Touchstone the clown, she creates a new identity in the green world dressed as a man. In the guise of Ganymede she encounters unexpected difficulties in love—being both the pursued and the pursuer! Rosalind forges friendships, discovers love, unites a cranky shepherdess and her adoring swain, recovers her father and unravels love triangles in fine Shakespearian form. Favorite characters such as Phebe, Silvius, and Jaques populate this exquisite and delightful play. By audition/ interview only.
