Below the Horizon is a fantastic story that reveals what can be achieved when difference is embraced. The play examines the response to an environmental crisis by two peoples: land people and merfolk. Something is wrong with the ocean. Garbage is being thrown into the water, and fish are coming down with a mysterious illness that is killing them. Esmeni, a young mergirl, wants to talk to the land people. She believes that if they knew there was something wrong, they would help. But other merfolk want action; they want a war and revenge. The land people have similar reactions. Some want to help the merfolk while others only see the discovery and existence of merfolk as a potential for profit.
