Arts Express
Grades 2 - 4

Arts Express is Imagination Stage’s popular “Introduction-to-Theatre” camp for children entering grades 2–4. Camp days are filled with fun, active and educational experiences in creative drama, music, movement and visual arts. Camps also include developing important life-long learning skills such as teamwork, active listening, creativity, spontaneity and risk-taking. Special workshops in sign theatre, stage make-up and more! See “sample day” on opposite page.

Under the direction and guidance of Artist- Educators and trained college-age counselors, children learn the ‘nuts and bolts’ of developing a story, creating characters and putting a play together. Much of the camp is spent acquiring the tools and developing the skills necessary to be an actor.

The Princess and the Pig: A Quirky Tale of Magic, Adventure and Love
Everyone knows a beautiful princess is supposed to marry a handsome prince, but just like Shrek, this is no ordinary fairytale! When Princess Daria goes snooping in a magic book, she discovers she is destined to marry a pig. What follows is a tale of risk and adventure for Daria as she travels to the ends of the earth to save her Pig Prince from the evil clutches of the Dragon Witch. Much to the surprise of both Pig and Princess, they learn to look past their differences and see their true beauty inside! Using the traditional Romanian story “The Tale of the Pig,” the Imagination Stage team has crafted a thrilling, theatrical journey filled with curious characters for Arts Express campers.

Pomegranates for Persephone: The Story of the Seasons
Persephone wants nothing more than to enjoy the beautiful Spring weather with her friends. Hades, the boy king of the Underworld, is lonely, without any friends of his own. When Persephone sneaks out against her mother Demeter’s wishes and becomes friends with Hades, she gets more than she bargained for—including becoming queen of the Underworld! Demeter begins a quest to get her daughter back home, helped by her friends Zeus, Apollo, and Athena. By the end, Persephone realizes that being a queen is no fun without the people she loves. Based on Greek myth, Persephone’s and Demeter’s journeys affect the whole world, including introducing a new season: Winter.
