More VSA Festival Notes

I am always quick to say how much I love my job.  Every day working at Imagination Stage is unique, exciting and challenging.  So when I say that this weekend marks a truly outstanding moment in my career experience so far, that’s saying something.   I was lucky enough to both attend and present at the VSA Education Conference with my colleague Diane Nutting.  Over the course of the weekend, I attended workshops on teaching and sustaining inclusive programs in visual art, dance and theatre facilitated by artists from Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and South Africa, as well as New York, Mississippi, and Washington DC.  Pretty incredible.

But, here’s the really cool thing from the perspective of a first time conference-goer.  Beyond the workshops, the VSA Conference and Festival provided me with two exceptional opportunities.  First, the chance to speak directly with artists, policy makers, researchers and educators from an array of cultures, and with a variety of perspectives from within the disability community.  People I have only read about, people who are changing the face of the fields we are working in.  This is not something that happens every day.  Second, having the chance to see and be a part of how Imagination Stage is being represented on the national and international level is so exciting.  Knowing that we were able to share some of our philosophy and experience this weekend is pretty remarkable too!
