Behind the Scenes with The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe: Part 1
Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 by adminAn Old Tale Set to a New Beat
Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 by adminThis fun and informative piece comes from Arthur T. Wilson of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, where P.Nokio: a Hip-Hop Musical will be touring after it closes at Imagination Stage on March 11. This piece gives an in-depth look at Psalmayne 24 (writer/director/actor), his work, and why the classic tale of Pinnochio lends itself to a Hip-Hop inspired remix.
Dr. Dolittle Review
Tuesday, December 27th, 2011 by adminI enter the theater at Imagination Stage and simultaneously enter another world. An unfamiliar music pours over me. It is a man’s voice singing of war. My surroundings resemble those of musty, cluttered barracks. Before the show has started, men appear on stage and start going about what seems to be their daily routine. I have never seen this done before and found it enticing, as if to say “We are not going to wait until the play begins to start telling the story.”
Animal Grossology: For Both the Kid, and the Kid Inside All of Us
Friday, December 16th, 2011 by adminAnimal Grossology at the National Geographic Museum is so much more than what its name implies. The exhibits range from the truly gross to the exceptionally fun and interactive. As soon as I walked through the door I wished I had brought my great-great-niece and two of my best friends. It is truly a show for borth the kid and the adult with the kid inside.
The Performing Arts Give Kids a Community
Thursday, December 15th, 2011 by adminI’d like to share a common theme in my conversations with Imagination Stage families, a theme which I relate to personally. I hear frequently from parents that being in an acting or dance class has had a positive impact on their child. Many parents talk of how it has brought their child out of his/her shell, helped develop empathy, provided more confidence, or even—as one parent shared—given her and her teenage daughter a common interest to talk about. When I hear these comments and watch our students grow their theatre skills, I remember how theatre has also changed my life.
Summer Theatre Campus: From the Classroom to the Stage
Monday, November 7th, 2011 by adminLast weekend we spent the afternoon at a great middle-school party.
Granted, we planned the party…so we could be a little biased. But what really made this event great were the attendees—all of them 2011 Imagination Stage Summer Theatre Campus (STC) alumni. These young people, ages 10 – 14 gathered together to attend a performance of Aladdin’s Luck at Imagination Stage, which was followed by a pizza party reunion—featuring music, games, and a teaser for STC 2012.
Just Imagine the Perfect Holiday Gift!
Wednesday, October 26th, 2011 by adminEveryone knows what it feels like to search for that perfect gift for your loved ones. It can be frustrating going from store to store, browsing and browsing, but never finding just the right thing. The Museum Shop Around at Strathmore offers the perfect solution to this problem!
Kids Euro Festival 2011
Monday, October 17th, 2011 by adminOne of the perks for families in Washington each fall is Kids Euro Festival running from October 14-November 10. All 27 countries of the European Union send representative theatre, magic, music, puppet, dance, and film pieces to our capital city as a way of introducing local children to stories and artists from across the Atlantic.
Gala 2011: Making Magic
Friday, October 7th, 2011 by adminAs the Special Events Manager at Imagination Stage, many people think that my work for the October 22 Annual Gala & Silent Auction begins in October. But with a 400-seat house to fill; 30-50 volunteers to cultivate and manage; an online and silent auction to create; entertainment to hire; caterers with whom to meet (thanks to the fabulous Ridgewells for donating the catering for the past nine years!); lighting, sound, and graphic designers to solidify; printing companies and mail houses with which to partner (the list actually goes on, but I think you see what I’m getting at…); my planning for this year’s gala, Making Magic, actually began the day after last year’s gala event had happened.
Creating ImagiFest 2011
Thursday, September 1st, 2011 by adminI love a good party. So, when I joined the staff at Imagination Stage in July of 2009, I was thrilled that part of my job would be creating unique community engagement events that reflect the creativity we have on staff, on stage, and in our classrooms. I couldn’t ask for better collaborators. Imagination Stage has some of the most fun, hardworking, thoughtful, and creative people I have ever encountered. This is a group that knows how to have serious fun (not just a tagline…we walk the walk).
