Winter Break

Registration will open November 10.

December 29 and 30, 2014 and January 2, 2015
9:00-12:00 (Ages 3.5-5)
9:00-4:00 (Grades K-8)

Bring summer-time fun to the dreariness of December! Imagination Stage offers jam-packed days of creative drama, acting, dance, visual art, and specialty classes, to enjoy during students’ days off of school (and help working parents while school is on break).

Commotion in the Ocean (Ages 3.5-5)
"There’s a curious commotion at the bottom of the ocean. I think we ought to go and take a look!” Thus begins an undersea adventure like no other. Join us as we explore the world of the ocean and the curious characters that live there. Don’t forget to pack your imaginary flippers and wetsuit! Dive into different stories about fish, sharks, pirates, and mermaids, and use your imagination to create an underwater world using dramatic play, music, movement, and visual art.

Story Explorers (Gr. K-2) In this one-day experience, students use a popular story (such as Giraffes Can’t Dance or Pirate Pete’s Giant Adventure) to carry them through a day full of fun theatre arts activities such as creating characters, prop design, and creative movement.  By the end of the day, students act out scenes from the book by using their bodies and voices to create these fun characters for the stage.  Arts Blast days encourage creative expression and promote confidence and self-esteem while working on skills such as active listening and sharing.  Join us for just one, two, or all three days, each one with a different story guiding the adventure!

Theatre Sampler (Gr. 3-5) Spend your day off with Imagination Stage and explore a variety of disciplines and subjects within the exciting world of theatre.  Arts Blast days for third to fifth graders include performance classes that may include musical theatre or improvisation, but also introduce students to aspects of the profession they may not be familiar with, such as fight choreography, clowning, directing, and production design (including a backstage tour of Imagination Stage’s Lerner theatre, and costume and scene shops!).  Each sampler day will vary and students are encouraged to join us for one, two, or all three Winter Break dates.

After Care is available from 3:30-6:00 for students in grades K-5.

**New for Teens! THE PLAY OFF!

January 2, 2015 from 9:00-7:30PM (Grades 6-8 and 9-12)

The Play Off Based on popular 24-hour play festivals around the country, Imagination Stage is hosting its 1st Annual Play Off competition! Actors register in teams (6-8 or 9-12 grade teams) or as individuals (and IS will assign you to team) and work towards producing a 10-minute play—all within 24 hours! Teams are provided mentorship by both Imagination Stage staff, access to props and costumes from Imagination Stage’s collection, and will perform in The Reeve Studio Theatre for a panel of judges comprised of theatre professionals from the DC community.  Friends and family are invited to attend the performance at 7:30pm.
