Teens
Incorporate Veronika Farkas' philosophy of Dance as a means of communication as they refine their technique, apply and demonstrate critical and creative thinking skills, and explore the relationship between movement, rhythm and music. Creation, analysis and critique form the cycle of the Dance process. Teens can take classes and/or audition for the Dance Ensemble (ISDE) or Conservatory. In Conservatory and ISDE, teens gain a combination of high technical dance education and intellectual understanding of dance across history and cultures.
Creative Movement and Dance at Imagination Stage releases each student’s innate creativity through movement with the understanding that dance is a means of communication. In a progressive, age-appropriate dance curriculum, students learn technique, choreographic principles and critical and creative thinking skills.
Elementary-aged students develop kinesthetic awareness and concentration while learning basic dance technique including partner skills. Students also investigate the narrative structures of dance, using stories or themes to create sequences. Students progress from copying moves to improvising and creating dances based on their own ideas. As they mature, high-order skills in technique are developed and the intellectual concepts of interpretation and criticism are introduced.
