Acting & Musical Theatre

ActingMusic_WEB

The programs at Imagination Stage teach acting, singing and movement skills through a variety of age appropriate, sequential classes and workshops.

Acting

Kindergarten through Grade 3, students work within the world of Creative Drama and Movement: these are process-centered classes which use drama, music, movement and visual art to foster personal growth, teamwork and creativity. Classes use storytelling, books and songs as a means to explore characters through structured, creative and fun activities.

Beginning at Grade 4
, students transition to Acting Technique: the actor's process of creating three dimensional characters and truthful actions for the stage. Classes utilize theater games, improvisation activities and scene work to develop characterization and script analysis skills.

Grades 6–12,
continue to hone the core concepts of acting: character, objectives, tactics and given circumstances. As the acting student gets older, they are encouraged to delve more analytically, and more emotionally, into each of those concepts. Students learn to apply interplay and spontaneity as well as work on transitions and moments of decision.

Musical Theatre

Grades K-12, Musical Theater classes combine the three disciplines of acting, singing and dance. Students connect their singing to the wants of the characters and identify musical elements within the context of the story. Students begin their voice training by developing proper breathing habits and posture,  gradually building their technique with proper sound placement, mouth shapes and vocal dynamics working to produce clear, full singing voices.

Conservatories & Ensembles

For students who are interested in a more advanced course of study, Imagination Stage offers Speak Out on Stage (Grades 4–6) and the acclaimed Acting and Musical Theater Conservatory (Grades 6-10) programs provide advanced, multifaceted, intensive course study in the crafts of acting and musical theater. These programs culminate with a fully produced play or musical in the final year of study.
